What is Occupational Therapy?
To have the ability to participate in occupations (activities) that are meaningful to us is essential to our physical and mental health and wellbeing. This includes what we need to do, what we want to do, and what is expected of us. The occupations (activities) that we engage in everyday all have therapeutic value and support us in having our own individual identity.
There may be times in our lives when we have difficulties performing these occupations of meaning and necessity, this may be due to factors outside our individual control. Occupational Therapists are experts in holistic rehabilitation and work from a personalised and occupation focused approach. To ensure your success and functional wellness, this can often involve modification of the occupation and/or the environment. Indeed, fundamental to our role is to enable and empower you to have a healthy occupational pattern (range of activities in your life), performance rate (to take part in these activities at the right pace), and to have your occupational needs met (to feel satisfied by the activities you have in your life).
